Fourth Graders Take the Wind Turbine Challenge
Fourth grade had an exciting visit from Dr. Dave who taught our students about engineering and renewable energy! The class learned about the engineering cycle - plan, build, test - while tackling a real-world challenge: how to generate clean energy without harming the environment.
After discussing how wind turbines work and looking at real-world designs, students broke into teams to build their own mini turbines using popsicle sticks, foam, cardboard, and other materials. They even got to test their creations in front of a fan and and use a voltmeter to measure how much electricity they generated!
Groups then discussed what worked (and what didn't), made improvements to their designs, and tested again.
Your support of the PTO allows us to bring STEM programs like this to Brown - thank you!
